What Is a Video Biography?
A video biography, sometimes called a life-story film or biographical film, is a film about one person's life, told in their own words. Unlike a written biography, it takes shape in conversation and is filmed.
How a video biography comes together
At its core is a guided interview: we talk with the person about their life, what shaped them, the people and events that formed them. That conversation is filmed and edited into a film, often supplemented with photos, old footage, or documents from the family archive. We describe the exact process under How it works.
What it's for
A video biography is not a promotional film and not an interview for the public. It's made for the family: for the children and grandchildren who will later want to know who this person was, how they spoke, how they moved, what they believed in.
Formats and scope
Depending on scope, we distinguish three formats: a compact portrait made in a single filming day (Memory), a fuller work that draws on archive material (Legacy), and individually shaped projects for families or institutions (Heritage). Details on all three formats: Films.
